As a national expert for WIPO, our director Andreas Prasetya, alongside our team, undertook the responsibility of spearheading the IP Booster Project for Tourism in Bali in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Provincial Government of Bali. Tasked with documenting and publishing the project's progress and impact, our role was pivotal in ensuring the success and dissemination of key findings and outcomes.
Our journey began with the recognition of challenges within Bali's tourism industry, particularly concerning intellectual property (IP) protection and utilization. Many local entrepreneurs lacked awareness of IP rights and strategies, hindering their competitiveness and leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. Additionally, the absence of comprehensive IP support systems limited the industry's ability to innovate and grow sustainably.
To address these challenges, our agency, under Andreas’ direction as the national expert, played a central role in developing and implementing the "BRAND BRILLIANCE: IP Booster for Tourism in Bali" program. Leveraging our expertise in documentation and publication, we meticulously documented the program's progress, captured success stories, and disseminated key learnings to stakeholders. Through targeted efforts, we ensured that participants received personalized guidance and support to enhance their understanding and utilization of IP strategies, empowering them to protect their intellectual property, develop branding strategies, and access new markets.
After 11 months of dedicated efforts, the IP Booster Project in Bali has delivered tangible results. We, together with the stakeholders, have facilitated 13 new trademarks and 4 rebrandings, alongside developing 16 IP diagnostics and business strategies. Two local businesses have accessed new international markets, and we've initiated the application for registration of a collective mark "unBALIvable." These achievements demonstrate our commitment to empowering local businesses and driving sustainable tourism development in Bali, Indonesia, with plans to replicate and scale up similar initiatives nationwide.
